Farming in Thailand, and especially farming in the mountainous
region of Bo Klua, can use the implementation of especially designed tools to
ease the stress on native farmers. The tools already in use have both positive
and negative aspects which have been taken into account when redesigning the
weeding tool. The original weeding tool was both efficient and capable of
quickly removing weeds. However, the weeding tool was also a cause of chronic
back pain due to the steeply inclined slopes of the mountains where the rice is
planted. Therefore, our group proposes a newly designed weeding tool that is
simple to assemble, made from readily found materials, efficient in weeding and
will reduce the cause of the chronic back pain experienced by the farmers. By
the end of this course the proposed tool will be presented as a small scale and
full scale prototype.
